Getting there

How to get to Cluny from Mâcon and Lyon

Cluny has no railway station of its own — here is how the TGV, the bus, and the A6 motorway actually connect.

Cluny has no train station of its own

The nearest railway is the Mâcon-Loché TGV station, on the Paris–Lyon high-speed line, around twenty kilometres from Cluny. There is no direct train into the town itself, which is the detail that catches out visitors planning a rail-only day.

TGV to Mâcon, then bus

From Paris, the TGV to Mâcon-Loché takes roughly an hour and a half to an hour and forty minutes. The regional Line 701 bus connects the station to Cluny in about twenty minutes; services run every couple of hours rather than constantly, so check the timetable before you travel.

By car from Lyon or the A6

Lyon is around a hundred kilometres away, close to an hour and a quarter by car, mostly on the A6 motorway north along the Saône valley. From Mâcon the drive is about twenty-five minutes.

Building a day around the journey

Because the connection from Mâcon involves a bus timetable rather than a direct line, it rewards checking times in advance rather than arriving at the station and hoping. Drivers have more flexibility and can combine Cluny with the Mâconnais vineyards and villages on the same day.
